Buzzing Analog Chimebox with Chime Connector
Hello all. I could use some help with my video doorbell/chime box. I recently noticed the chimebox (analog, not digital) was buzzing and running hot. This is not the chime buzzing, but an electrical buzzing sound. My doorbell's battery also drained and died when this happened. This continues to happen even after the troubleshooting below:
- Replaced my 16V 10VA transformer for a 24V 10VA transformer, as 16V is not recommended for video doorbells.
- Installed the Simplisafe Chime Connector.
- Double checked that all connections are snug and wires are connected properly.
I have no idea where to go from here. I'm almost ready to just reinstall my normal doorbell and put a camera out front.
I have included a (crude) handrawn diagram of the wiring I have done, which for some reason is posting sideways. Can someone let me know if something is off, or if there are other steps I could take? Thank you!

I should mention, that the buzzing only happens when I have connected the video doorbell. When I leave it off, there is no buzzing.

Okay, so here is some more info about troubleshooting this some more on my own.
1. My new transformer lets you choose between 8V, 16V, or 24V.
2. Stepping down to 16V actually makes everything work, but the chime box seems to be pretty stressed. The striker is constantly moving. There is no electrical buzz as before with the 24V, but there is more of an analog humming sound from the striker being in constant motion.
3. Stepping down further to 8V, which it turns out is the minimum and is suppose to work (I didn't realize that), everything works properly except the chime is now very weak. Only one part is being struck, and it is inconsistent.
I am hoping that number three did the trick, and this weakened chime is temporary while the doorbell hogs power to charge its battery. I will leave another comment if that is the case. Hoping this matter is resolved, and that all this info will be useful to someone else pulling out their hair and learning way more about chime boxes than they set out to.
