As the Captain says, Push Notifications are notifications that are sent through the SimpliSafe app. More specifically, those alerts are transmitted through the internet to your SimpliSafe app.
So on your iPhone, they would show up on your Lock Screen with the SimpliSafe app icon, rather than the icon of the Messages app.
They do have the advantage of coming directly from SimpliSafe, without having the extra layer of your cell provider's SMS network. But your phone needs to be connected to internet data (through WiFi or cell) in order to receive notifications.
@kurt_s push notifications are alerts to your phone via the Simplisafe phone app. Per SS support, they are more reliable and quicker than SMS messages. You can also set up from your phone app to issue SMS and email messages, and for the type of event. I have mine sent to push alerts for errors, alarms and arming changes. Note I also receive emails for errors and alarms.
@hatlady This is for the Android app but iOS should be the same or similar. Open app, go to bottom right and tap "My System". On bottom of menu that slides pen select alarts and notifications. Then sleect Push Notifications. Recommend you choose alarms and also warnings. Don't forget to hit save and then you are done.
Need more help? Call Support and they will either walk you through it or, if you like, do it for you on their end.
I will be vacationing in Europe for two weeks where I will have a different cell phone number. Does the cell app(Android) allow me to change the designated cell phone for push messages or how will that work? I guess the same question for the SMS message notifications and changing the cell number.
@trave Push Notifications are enabled by default. Because they're sent to your phone via the internet, they'll go through as long as your phone is connected to WiFi or cell data. You can also receive Push Notifications on any device, as long as the SimpliSafe app is installed, and you're still logged into your account.
SMS Text Alerts are sent to your phone number, and appear in your phone's Messages app, just like any other text message. You must be connected to your cell provider's network to receive them. You can set up multiple phone numbers to receive Text Alerts through the SimpliSafe app. Unfortunately, SMS Text Alerts are supported only for US and UK phone numbers at this time - so if you decide to switch to a European cell number, we wouldn't be able to set up alerts for that number.
