Random Sensor Disconnect

Hello,

I am a new Simplisafe customer, and I am having issues with keypad, entry sensors and water sensors going offline randomly. Last night I had multiple failures with multiple sensors going offline in the middle of the night. First to go was the entry sensor on the 1st floor, hr. later water sensor in the basement and another entry sensor on the 1st floor and hr. later another entry sensor on the 1st floor went offline. All entry sensors come back online as soon as I open close the windows.

One of the sensor that went offline last night is 6 to 8ft from the base station with direct line of site.

I have had nothing but problems with the system and not exactly sure that to do next. I have talked to support resetting base station, etc. Removing and readding sensors is not an option considering that this has happened multiple times with random sensors.

Any help?

Yes, it's really annoying. Last night I had 6 sensors and 2 keypad that went offline. Every sensor came back online on their own other than the keypads.

Time to call support again.

Replacement base station on the way. Let's see if that helps.

This is the 3rd time in the last week that I wake up during the middle of the night. I can't with this system.

I have replaced the water sensor's battery with a new one, and I put it by the base station, and it still gets disconnected. This is so frustrating that I am considering sending everything back.

@r2ro How close is the Water Sensor to the Base Station? Are there any thick walls/materials or heavy appliances directly between them? If there are, try adjusting the placement of the Base Station or Water Sensor to remove that interference between the devices.

It can also help to look at the placement of the Base Station. In order to communicate with other SimpliSafe devices properly, the Base Station should be placed on a non-dense material like wood or glass, as putting it on a denser material like granite or concrete can impact its connection. The Base Station should also be in open air, and should not be hidden away in a closet or cabinet. For more details, see the Where Should I Place My Base Station article in the Help Center.

But if the Water Sensor is right next to the Base Station, and you continue to receive error messages that it is Offline or Not Responding, that may indicate an issue with the device itself. In that case, please contact our Support team for additional assistance.

Last night I was awakened several times to my SimpliSafe system telling me it could not connect to certain sensors, Water, Entry, etc..  This is the new norm with the newer SimpliSafe System.  For the last several months since upgrading my older system nothing but errors.  The "Original" never had any problems except it could not be monitored because it lacked the upgrade module.  I have to go to each device and reset the battery.  What is more aggravating is trying to arm the system only to be denied because a sensor is not responding.  I then have to find the sensor, correct the errors and then try again.  Overall I would say the newer System needs improvements.  If SimpliSafe is monitoring their logs and email traffic then this problem is already known to them as nightmare for its customers.

@smcrume2021 If multiple sensors on your system are reported as Not Responding, that is generally due to an underlying issue with the placement of the Base Station. In this case, we recommend moving the Base Station to another area in your home.

When finding a place to put the Base Station, we recommend that:

  • The Base Station is elevated at least 3 feet from the ground
  • The Base Station is placed on a non-dense material like wood or glass—putting it on a denser material like granite or concrete can make it harder for the device to communicate with your sensors
  • The Base Station should be at least 3-5 feet away from other electronic devices that emit a wireless signal, like televisions, routers, and other WiFi-enabled appliances

For more details, see the Sensor Not Responding for Multiple Sensors article in the Help Center.

I am having the same problem. We moved the base station and now it has a connection failure with a close sensor. There are 2 sensors right next to it and they are fine. Two sensors are really far way and they are fine. Base station problems????? Still in the 60 day period, and still have 3 weeks ADT. Will call support tomorrow and if not resolved (new base-station???) I'm afraid I have to return all and keep my ADT.

Hi @pwesterink

If you are moving your Base Station and experiencing different results, it could be caused by RF noise from other [non-SimpliSafe] devices in this area.
You could review devices such as smart thermostats, smart meters, appliances etc.

The Base Station works best in a centrally located area within your home or business, and in a spot that’s free and clear from wireless interference. Placing your Base Station in a cabinet, closet, or around dense materials (such as granite, concrete, or metal) can weaken its signal to other SimpliSafe® devices. Installing your Base Station next to devices that output a wireless signal, such as a router or TV, is also not recommended. This can cause wireless interference and decrease the overall signal strength of the Base Station.
