@larrykpa How far away is the Keypad from the Base Station? If the Keypad is in a different room that the Base Station, it can help to move the Keypad closer to it–we recommend placing the Keypad within 10 feet of the Base Station.

However, if the Keypad is close to the Base Station is can then help to reset the Base Station by taking the following steps:

  1. Unplug the power cord from the Base Station, and use a Phillips Head screwdriver to remove the screw below the plug
  2. Remove the bottom cover and remove one battery from the Base Station
  3. Wait 30 seconds
  4. Reassemble the Base Station by inserting the battery, cover, and the power cord
  5. When powered up after the reset, the Base Station will say "Welcome to SimpliSafe"

@rapetrick It may also help to power cycle the Keypad by following these steps:

  1. Remove the battery panel on the back of the Keypad

  2. Remove all 4 batteries

  3. Wait at least 30 seconds, this should allow the Keypad to fully power off

  4. Insert 4 new AA batteries into the Keypad. We recommend that the batteries are less than 8 months old

If that doesn't help to add your Keypad to your system, I would then recommend contacting our Support team for further assistance.

My keypad will not connect to the base station. I tried unplugging the base station and taking out the battery. I took out the batteries in the keypad. I deleted the keypad from the system and reinstalled it.  The moved the keypad within 5 feet of the base station. What else should I try?

@cvantrieste We see that you got in touch with our Support team, and they are sending you a new system to help resolve this issue. If you run into the same problem when your new system arrives, please let us know and we can troubleshoot further!

This is not working for me.

I tried all of the suggestions, and the base and keypad will still not connect.

@Heatherwalterskelly If you haven't already, please check out the Error: Keypad Out of Range article on the Help Center. This article will take you through the troubleshooting steps when trying to pair a new Keypad to your system, and troubleshooting any potential interference between the Keypad and Base Station.

Same issue as above, except my system was trying to install an update last week and apparently it continues to fail to install.

@rj_held Just so I have this right, is your Keypad no longer connected to your Base Station, or are you having trouble updating your Base Station's firmware?

If the Keypad is not connecting to the Base Station, I recommend power cycling the Keypad as a first step. To do this, take the following steps:

  1. Remove the battery panel from the back of the Keypad
  2. Remove all 4 batteries
  3. Place three of the batteries back into the Keypad
  4. Wait 3 minutes
  5. Place the 4th battery back into the Keypad

After power cycling the Keypad, it should reconnect to your Base Station.

However, if this is an issue regarding updating your Base Station's firmware, we recommend trying to update it using the SimpliSafe® Mobile App. If you check out the Updating Your SimpliSafe® System article in the Help Center, it will take you through the steps to update your Base Station.

Changing the batteries worked for me.  The old batteries only had about 1v.  I DID NOT take the screws out, only the slide cover on the back.
