Geofencing

When will geofencing be supported?

my household does not run on a predictable schedule so the included basic schedule on/off option does not work for us. Our lights, security cameras and even our heat/AC work via geofencing, come on SimpliSafe.

Hi @PCox62,

We have submitted this feature to our dev team for their consideration, but I do not have any updates regarding it. I'll bubble this idea back up to them. When we get any news, we'll provide an update over in this thread.

Any further word on this?  We are in the same situation - scheduled operations are useless because of our schedule.  Your site clearly indicates that geofencing is available, yet I cannot find it in the app. As point out, this is pretty much a standard feature for many systems these days, and should have been standard in all security systems from day 1.  I understand there are potentially complex situations regarding which devices can be where for arming to happen (e.g. I only want it armed if all *adult* phones are off premise, ignoring child devices), but it's not really that complex.

Agreed. This is basic functionality. Abode had it in 2017. What are you doing SimpliSafe?

A quick Google search shows that SimpleSafe has been passing this suggestion on to the developers for many years now with no result. It seems that this is their standard brush-off response when someone requests this feature.

I'm ready for this feature too

"Currently" only possible with Home Assistant's Simplisafe Integration that I'm aware of. I have it and geofenceing works, for now.

Home Assistant alone or with Owntracks does the zones, automations arm or disarm. Simplisafe's base station

simpli (lol) responds to the commands.

What integration did you use? Did you link to Google maps?

@davbross Yes, the short story is Google is providing the GPS portion via my phone I believe. Unfortunately.

I tried Home Assistant zones first, and it wasn't accurate enough to suit me or my settings were wrong.

Now I use Owntracks, a free open source tracker and has an integration for HA. And app for phone.

http setup rather than MQTT for me.

That has move modes, quiet, significant, moving etc.

I change modes with Intents via Tasker apps location zones, entering, leaving etc. Home Assistant's zones are for auromations location tracking and the automations for Arming Away, Disarming. Both Simplisafe and Alarmo.

Be aware that if you have Home Assistant and load the SS integration, it's a bit persnickety getting the authorization code and occasionally it needs renewed just like logging in via app or web. Time limited.

SS Sensors are polled and slow up to 20 or 30 seconds response, but could be used for door open warning or opened too long etc. (And why I have 37 Zigbee sensors in parallel.)

Arming SS etc is just as fast, as that's done with websockets.

Quite the frustrating setup. 😂😬😜 But I'm old and retired and needed something to do.
