Credit card needed for no trial/subscription?

Customer service is telling me I need to give a credit card to finish registration through the app even though I declined trials and subscriptions. I'm at the page where it says "You're all set!" and the "Got It" button just isn't working.

Did those of you who have no subscription/trial but use the app for free (limited use, but still some usefulness) have to give your credit card?

This seems like a scam or the CSR don't know what they're doing.

Hi @helpmesimplis,

I'm afraid you were given incorrect information, you do not need to include your credit card information when registering your account with the free Basic App Control plan.

Dlpsr makes a good point, if you have finished setting up your devices in the SimpliSafe app, I would log into the web app to finish setting up your account. If that does not work, I would contact our Support team, as they can help you set up your account in real-time.

@emily_s My devices were already technically set up, I was just trying to connect the app. The web app is connected, but doesn't let control the "off/home/away" remotely even though the Simplisafe website says everyone should be able to do so, regardless of whether they have a plan: https://support.simplisafe.com/articles/alarm-events-monitoring/what-are-the-service-plan-options/6344794a013ba90af0bce6a4?lang=en_US

The Support team, through the app, is who told me this and tried to get me to give them my credit card information.

@helpmesimplis correct, if you don't want a paid monitoring plan, you can still arm/disarm your system while using the SimpliSafe app and view a livestream of your cameras. I see in another comment you mentioned that you were previously subscribed to a paid monitoring service plan and cancelled it, which is where this issue arose. If you call into our Support team at 800-548-9508 and ask to downgrade to the Basic App Control Plan (which is 100% free,) you should regain access to the app.

I know this thread is two years old but I'm wondering if this information is still accurate? That being, if I purchase a system today, install it, and attempt to activate it, I don't need to give credit card information and get a 30 day free trial of home monitoring? Also, without monitoring, will the app still allow remote arming and disarming the system? Thanks.

@oneshelbygt500 If you choose to forego a monitoring plan after activating your SimpliSafe® system, you do not need to input your credit card information. But if you elect to activate a free trial of monitoring, you will be prompted to enter your credit card information.

Without a paid monitoring, you will be able to use the SimpliSafe® mobile app to arm and disarm your system. You can learn more about what is included in each of our monitoring plans in the What are the Monitoring Plan Options article in the Help Center.

@oneshelbygt500 If I may add as a 13+ year customer, the Core Monitoring plan hits the sweet spot in value vs price, at least for me, at this time.  It includes indoor active monitoring, which I have tested on several occasions, that works great, adding another layer of security to your home and family. SS does offer a free trail and as long as you call to advise them to cancel by the end of the trial, you won't be charged...and if you do in error (sometimes SS does have issues chewing gum and walking like any other company) you will get a credit.

Good luck on your decision whatever it may be and a safe and happy 4th of July holiday to you and your family.
