Bought off ebay

I bought a used camera off of eBay. It was from someone’s house they bought and they didn’t want it since they had a ring doorbell. I have reached out to them to see if I can get any info about the old homeowner and they have nothing. I just need this doorbell account removed and I can use it. Why is SimpliSafe telling me the best solution for this is to buy a new doorbell since it’s new and then I won’t have those issues. Been a member with them for over 5 years and yet I get treated like I stole this doorbell. Then on top of it all they ask me to get the old owners safeword in order to access it. I wouldn’t give out my safeword to anyone and yet they want me to get it to prove it’s not stolen.

Hi @millermatt56 ,

The core part of the issue is that in order to make sure that the camera has an airtight secure connection, we bind it to the user's account. So the user would have to remove the camera from their account manually (through the SimpliSafe app) in order to make it available to be used on another account.

We do have a way to remove a camera from the account on our end. However, as you note, our Support team is not able to make changes to any account, or even give you info about that account, without confirming your identity. Of course, you're right, you shouldn't give out your Safe Word to a stranger. But you wouldn't want our Support ream giving out your info to strangers without your permission, either!

Is it possible for you to contact the previous owner at all through the eBay reseller? Even if just to forward the instructions I linked above. Otherwise, unfortunately, that camera might be DOA.
