Warning still sounds even though I changed the battery

I changed the battery to a door sensor but the system still says the battery is low

Hi @cessnajock,

After changing the battery in your Entry Sensor, is it working? I.e. does it light up when activated, and is your Base Station responding to it? If so, the Keypad or app might not have the latest info from your system. You can refresh your Keypad and app with the following steps:

  • On your Keypad, look for the [!] symbol on the side of your screen. Press down on that side to open the Notification area. Follow the on-screen instructions to clear any pending warnings.
  • On the SimpliSafe app, open up the Dashboard and pull down the screen. When you release, the app will ask your system to send its most recent info.

If that does not help and your system still says that your Entry Sensor's battery is low, I would take the battery out and put it back in again.

@emily_s  I have the same issue and these steps also don’t work for me. Replacing the battery does not clear the low battery message on the keypad and app

@elmeto If you remove your sensor and then add it back in by following these steps in our Help Center, that should remove the message on your Keypad and app.

So, every time I replace a sensor battery, I have to delete the sensor and then add it back again? That is a lot of trouble. Why can't the device list take care of this when I refresh? Seems kind of cumbersome for a simple battery change.

@sylshipps I have the same problem. Battery is low, I replace it, but the low battery notification never clears. This has happened to me many times and with different types of sensors. The only way I can make the notification go away is to delete the device then add it back.

This seems like a bug and it needs fixing.  If you’re listening, SimpliSafe, please fix this!  Super annoying to delete and add back sensors - we shouldn’t have to do this and it is very annoying.

@christophermishak it sounds like you're running into an intentional security feature. As part of the secure communication between the sensors and the Base Station, the two components keep in sync. And if a sensor ever goes offline for an extended period of time, it could 'desync', and the Base Station will no longer allow it to reconnect. That's why the solution that you share is the correct one, and you do need to remove the sensor from the system and re-add it.

@emily_s - FYI - I tried the steps above and it did not work for us after installing the new battery. There was no method to cancel/clear the low battery alert on the keypad or on my phone app after we installed a new battery. I confirmed the device was recognized in the dashboard.  I did discover that removing the device and reconnecting it back to to the base station cleared the alert and reconnected the device. Thought you might want to know to help other folks. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
