No Entry/Exit Chime

Hello,

I'm new to the service, and just installed things yesterday.

I've configured the chime set to every level, using the web configuration.  I get no chime, upon the opening of any circuit.

Yes, the Entry Sensor Chime should be enabled on the Base station by default. The Base Station Reset, as suggested by guyd770, is a good troubleshooting step to clear out any software/firmware issues:

  1. Remove the power plug from your Base Station, revealing a screw.
  2. Using a Philips head, unscrew that one screw.
  3. Twist the whole bottom panel of the Base Station counter-clockwise and pull away to reveal the batteries.
  4. Take out just one battery.
  5. Wait 10 seconds, and reinsert.
  6. While your reassemble your Base Station, it should boot up.

But if the reset above does not restore audio to your Base Station, give us a call at 800-548-9508. We may need to replace your Base Station after further troubleshooting.

Problem Solved...

Upon doing my own research, I decided to reboot the unit.  1) Unplug the unit (New Simplisafe unit), 2) unscrew the battery access screw near the plug, 3) remove and reinstall the rechargeable batteries.

Upon doing so, I received a "Welcome to Simplisafe" audio message. (I never got that, when I initially installed the unit.) Now, I'm hearing the chime, anytime an Entry Sensor opens its circuit (Example, opening a door/window), but not when the circuit closes (Example, closing a door/window). I'm assuming this is normal operation, and considering the problem solved.

(For my next trick, I'm figuring out why 1/3 of my sensors keep going offline...

I've got this exact same problem. However, your fix didn't work for me. Hugely frustrating because there's no reason at all it shouldn't work.

Voice prompts work just fine, silent alerts work perfectly, camera triggers/records fine on entry or exit. All systems are up to date.

Any ideas?

Ah, I've figured it out.

So, if you have 'secret alert' enabled for when the alarm is off, it won't chime. If you disable 'off' mode completely, the chime will work.

Really unsure why you can't have both. Be nice to have the chime when you're inside but good to keep the phone notification when you're out.

This was the case for me too!

Thank you!

Hi @2628north73rdcourt ,

It's because the Secret Alert is designed to be just that - secret. It's intended for watching over things like a liquor cabinet or gunsafe, or a room in the home where you don't want your kids to get in. So it's set up so that the person opening the door wouldn't know that an alert has been sent.

@sterumbelow — thank you sooo much! Customer service wasn’t able to figure it out

yes. thanks! exactly the problem I was having - solved.

This seems like a flaw not a function or feature of the system.

Yeah...i was also looking for an option to have it enabled it for both - meaning when secret alert is enabled for specific entry sensors , i would like to receive notifications as well as it would chime on base station.

Is there any way out as of now? I have SS3 system.

My base has never made a noise. Not during setup, not when windows or doors open. Never. I just unplugged and opened it, I dont even see rechargeable batteries inside of it. Guess I'll email support. I have voice and chimes set to high volume. Any ideas?

^ If you have interactive monitoring, you can go to your online account and check all of your settings to make sure it's set up the way you want (for example, Base station voice/volume=ENABLED) - you can also do this via the keypad in settings.

If you've never had any base station voice prompts, no chimes, etc, you should test your system to make sure it's working correctly.  Test a sensor or two, you should receive a text alert (if you're signed up for alerts), as well as a call from monitoring to confirm they've received your signal.  On your dashboard page under TImeline of Events, you should also see if the signal was received.

You can also try rebooting your base station.  Unplug the ac adapter from the base station, there's a screw under that, unscrew and you'll find the battery compartment.  Take out one battery, wait a moment, put it back in, you should get a base station voice prompt "Welcome...", or that you're in test mode.  Replace the battery cover, screw and the ac adapter.  You can then test a sensor or two, or exit test mode via your keypad.  Now arm your system, see if the base station has a voice prompt that indicates "Armed" - if so, you should be good to go.  If not, disarm the system, call SS for troubleshooting, and ESPECIALLY if you never got a call from monitoring after a sensor was tested.

Btw, email response from SS is virtually non-existant much of the time, try calling them and pressing #1 for sales, sometimes you'll get someone to answer sooner.

To others regarding the secret alert option.  That's the whole idea, if you have it set up, it alerts you "secretly" so that no one but you knows that someone attempted to access whatever you have a sensor on that you've set to secret alert.  It will not sound a chime or announcement from the base station.

@coltmaster1 I think both options should be available, to chime even in secret alert mode. I use secret alert feature to get notifications on my phone. But also would be nice to get a chime from the base station as well. My previous alarm company had both a phone notification as well as the base station announced which sensor was tripped…”Front Door Opened”..

@Polkhigh

I can see how that might be useful when you're at home and maybe a teen is doing something they're not supposed to, for example (or any number of scenarios).  This thread is almost 2 years old, and I actually don't recall any other posts requesting the feature of the secret alert sensor also chiming, but you can always create a new post and request it. (not saying your request will be honored, but I do think DaveyD does his best to send requests to the engineers/dev team).

My wife and I just spent a long time trouble shooting why some sensors gave a chime and others wouldn’t. Until we found this post. Thank you @sterumbelow

@coltmaster1 My hunch is that most people don’t bother to access the forum, and hence it might not be an adequate snapshot of how people feel In these moments. Personally, I’m perplexed how I cannot have a chime and a notification at the same time. We use the chime for immediate notification whilst being in the house, but frequently use the phone notifications whilst out in the garden or having walked to the store for a moment.

One of many strange design, or lack of design decisions from SimpliSafe.

As a workaround we use certain settings for “system off” to get chimes whilst home, and “system home” with secret alerts when we are just stepping out, and “system away” whilst away longer times and wanting emergency services to respond without our evaluation.

Simply can’t imagine that’s how it was thought out. But it somewhat works. There’s a big span between being at home, especially in a multilevel house, and wanting police to arrive. Seems to be what @Polkhigh is hinting towards?

It has been 4 years since this post was made, and we still don' have the option to turn chimes and secret alerts on/off individually, for each entry sensor. This seems like an Alarm System 101 thing. :/

When I'm home and the security mode is set to "OFF" I do not want to hear a chime/beep every time we open an exterior door.  I have looked through "HELP" and have read these comments but the chime/beep still happens even though I have the front door chime set to "OFF".  Thanks in advance for your response.

Please ignore the above help request.  Turns out it must be turned off on the mobile app as well.  Problem solved.
