Motion sensor not working but no warning or message on base station

I came back home and the front door sensor didn't detect me coming in so the alarm was still set to away. I walked around the house and nothing happened. I opened the front door again to trigger it and disarmed the alarm. I put the system in test mode and discovered none of the motion sensors were communicating with the base station when you press the test button, the door sensors were communicating fine. I took the batteries out of the motion sensors and waited 30s before putting them back in and now they are talking to the base station.

There was no 'warning motion sensor not responding' like I get with the door sensors periodically, does the system not check that the motion sensors are operational like it does door sensors? Who knows how many days or weeks they have not been working and the system didn't seem to know that they are unresponsive. How can I get the system to tell me when a motion sensor is not communicating or not working?

Hi @stubum, thanks for taking the time to share your experience and run through those tests—it’s really valuable feedback.

The system is designed to monitor sensor connectivity through periodic check-ins and can surface alerts when it detects sustained communication issues.
However, in some instances, especially where timing is involved, a sensor may temporarily miss a check-in but recover before crossing the threshold that would trigger a notification. This can make it appear as though the sensor was unresponsive without the system flagging it.

Using Test Mode is the best way to verify real-time communication between your Motion Sensors and the Base Station. And the steps you have taken, are exactly what our support agents would advise. (Which resets the device and re-establishes communication).
We recommend reviewing the process outlined here: Motion Sensor Gen 2 Not Detecting Motion. It also covers optimal placement and behaviour guidelines to ensure consistent performance.

We appreciate the suggestion around visibility for sensor status. Enhancing how the system surfaces signal and connectivity issues is something we’re actively working out, and input like this helps drive those improvements.

If the issue recurs, don’t hesitate to reach out to our Support team so we can investigate further.

Thanks again for bringing this up.
