Glass Break Sensor Battery Low

Hi

One of my Glass break sensors seems to run out of battery quite quickly. While the first battery lasted over a year the next 3 batteries have lasted weeks. The other sensors are working fine.

Appreciate your advice.

Thanks

No response since August? Not a shining moment for simplysafe support! My glassbreak sensor (online and on the app) shows low battery even after replacing the battery with a brand new battery! BTW....it even shows low battery when removing battery completely and refreshing....Something def not right here

Me too… and I disabled it and removed it completely from my system… base station still reporting it. My three year old granddaughter chants it with the station…. Sigh

@pamzanni that's super strange. If a sensor has been removed from your system, you should no longer be seeing any warnings about it. Do you know if you purchased another Glassbreak Sensor somewhere else, maybe one that you hadn't set up yet? Our Support team can help by looking into your account to check all of your sensors.

@mannatek thanks for reporting. There's a couple of actions I would suggest:

1. Make sure you have the latest firmware installed on your Base Station. Your can check from your Keypad by navigating to Menu > System Settings > Check for Updates.

2. Remove your Glassbreak Sensor from your system, via the Keypad then re-add, under Menu > Devices.

If that doesn't work, then we may need to replace that sensor for you. Our Support team can help with a replacement under warranty.

I've tried it at 12:45 am Monday

I've had two sensors say battery low  just hours after I put in new batteries. Simply Safe sent me two new ones. Now I have another one doing the same thing. I think their glass break sensors have a manufacturing problem.

@Frank375 You may be right. I have two GB sensor, my daughter has 3 and I know over a dozen other people I keep in touch on a routine bases and all, no issues, but, we have used them for years. Call support and post your outcome here if you get a chance.

I had customer service tell me to delete the sensor from my base station, then reinstall. That worked for about 16 hours, then it went off again. I'm calling simplisafe for a replacement.

Well, that didn't work. This morning @11:00am when I disarmed the alarm to leave,  I got the battery low notice again. I called customer service again and they supposedly reset it.  Well see.

I don't work here just a former, very disgruntled customer. πŸ˜‚

I'd try, if you haven't already, delete the suspicious sensor from the app, reinstall. May or may not help.

Could also be a cache of sorts in the base if the above doesn't work, and pulling a base battery for a few minutes and reassemble might help.

Also check keypad for stuck low battery messages and delete them.

What I suspect is happening and it may not be for every case and applies to almost any battery sensor.

When the battery is removed all power is removed from the sensor, glass break, Zwave, Zigbee entry whatever and there is limited time to get it powered back on..not every sensor may have this problem.

If fast enough swapping batteries, I've had no issues with 35ish entry sensors reconnecting. Simplisafe or Zigbee & Zwave.

Sensor in one hand new battery in other, pop out old, pop in new.

Sensors "may" have a tiny capacitor or similar to hold power briefly (unknown), if it loses power connection to base, likely it has to be removed and entered into the SS system again.

My Zigbee sensors operate similarly, battery powered, when I shut down Home Assistant for maintenance, some, not all may lose connection to the Zigbee coordinator and need healed, by adding back in. Fortunately I don't have to delete and reinstall them, just add back to a router. Easy.

Yeah, I've tried it all. I'll pop the battery out and put a brand new one in in less than 3 seconds. I've also put in a new battery, removed/deleted sensor from my system and reinstalled it. Same thing. In just a couple hours I get ant alert, " battery low ".

This is my 3rd sensor. Simplisafe replaced the first two and they're working fine. Now I have another one. I think they had a bad lot of sensors and didn't know about it.

  I'm calling them tomorrow.

@Frank375 I still think your guess on a bad batch of sensors may be spot on. Again, I know many users who have glass break sensors with no issues. Please post the outcome of your call if you get a chance.

Captain11:  after a back and forth with trial & error fixes, simplisafe has sent me a new sensor, and provided me with a return lable to send the defective one back.

@Frank375 Under the "better late than never banner" just saw your reply. Hope this resolved the issue. Have a good summer!

SimpliSafe says a low battery in a glass breakage sensor will not trip the alarm. My keypad started beeping at 1:30 am today and the alarm went off. I was awake when the beeping started and heard nothing that could be interpreted as breaking glass. Opened the app this morning and guess what..Low Battery notice for the Glass Breakage sensor.

Disabled it and if the other sensors ever do this I am cancelling my service.

not that simple. false alarms in the middle of the night are not acceptable. If it happened when I was at work, I would not know if it was a false alarm and would have to have the police respond and leave work to investigate. a low battery should not trigger the alarm. I will not be replacing the sensor.

@dandw1995 If you do some research you'll find that cheap RF sensors are historical for false alarms with low batteries.

Non-linear Discharge Curve: CR23A batteries, like other lithium chemistries, exhibit a relatively flat discharge curve for most of their lifespan.

This means the voltage remains fairly consistent until the battery is nearing the end of its useful charge.

Rapid Voltage Decline: Once the voltage starts to drop, it typically declines rapidly towards the end of the battery's life.

So having low or failing batteries can make the signals erratic and potentially cause false alarms before you get the notification in their app etc.

A couple "sorta honest" lol, security companies if there are actually any, admit to false alarms possibilities with low batteries. In very fine print.

I've had no false alarms, other than ones I causes, but I use a calendar schedule for all SS batteries to be replaced about every 18 months or sooner, except an inner SS garage door entry sensor we open a 100 times daily, that one last about a year, plus or minus.

Now my Zigbee security sensors batteries last years. But they sleep when not in use and can be monitored in Home Assistant for actual percentage level and warn at whatever low level I choose.

I have the SS sensor batteries in HA also, but its rather useless, just says 100% all the time. My hope is if a battery level goes down the warning will come in Home Assistant faster than their system sends it.

Won't even let us monitor the fricken batteries on our own.
