Gen 2 Motion Sensors Randomly Stop Working Without Notice

In August 2024, I created a post about how my gen 2 motion sensors would randomly stop working without notice, but it appears that SimpliSafe has hidden that post. The motion sensors show as being online, and I do not receive any error messages when they randomly stop sensing motion. They are installed properly and work fine until they randomly stop working. I only notice they are not working if I happen to forget to deactive away mode and walk past a motion sensor and nothing happens. Removing and replacing the battery resolves the issue temporaritly, but this is not an acceptable solution, because you have no way of knowing when they stop working. Simplisafe provided replacement sensors when the issue was originally reported, but the issue clearly has not been fixed, because it it happening again with one of the replacement sensors.

@keelyc84 We see that you have already gotten in touch with our Support team regarding this, and they have escalated your case to our tech team. A member of the team should be in touch soon to investigate further.

Support was not able to provide any assistance. It's been almost a year now since I originally reported the issue, and it does not appear that SimpliSafe is doing anything to resolve the issue.

I have a Gen 3 unfortunately, πŸ˜‰ I disabled my two motion sensors. They're PIR sensors and detect heat. Or are supposed to.

Honestly, I've had little trouble with their RF sensors, it their junk cameras that caused my bad vibes for Simplisafe.

I don't want a fly or something landing on one armed away and setting off the alarm.

Might be rare, but false alarms are a nusience.

My actual real security system allows my Zigbee motion sensors to be sorta put in series (wrielessly) lol, and requires at least two be tripped to set off my home brewed alarm sirens within one minute. And they work 100%. Grouped and zone sensors.

I use them for lights & other automations.

I'm not sure they even support gen 2 much anymore.

The RF in your sensors or base could be getting weak. There is a hack online for adding a short wire by soldering it to the RF antenna in the motion sensor to strengthen the RF signal.

The base probably can't be fixed if thats the culprit.
