Beware of smoke detectors mysteriously “falling off” your account and Simplisafe doing nothing about it
We have had Simplisafe for 3 years now and chose this system solely because of the smoke detector/CO monitoring. My husband and I both work odd and long hours where our dog is left home alone and we heat our home with a wood stove, so smoke detector/CO monitoring was a must for us. Well 2 nights ago we had a chimney fire and THANK GOD we were home at the time. Had we been at work, our dog would have died. Simplisafe never called us or dispatched emergency services, after the fire department left, I looked at our account and NONE of our 5 smoke detectors or 2 CO alarms were linked to the system anymore. Not by our doing and according to Simplisafe, not by their doing either, so they just “mysteriously fell off”? We never received a notification that they were not connected to the system so we had no idea there was even an issue. After calling Simplisafe, I was just told “we don’t know what happened and Simplisafe is a DIY system so the monitoring department only monitors what is connected, it’s on you to make sure your devices are connected”. Never would I think that I had to check that our smoke and CO detectors remained connected to our account, am I supposed to check this daily? They offered to refund me the $35 monitoring that had been auto-deducted from my account the day prior, that’s it. When asking to speak to a manager because this is absolutely unacceptable that the devices were somehow removed from my account, I was told I couldn’t and that I would have to wait 24-48 hours for a call back from someone. What an absolute joke of a company, and what terrible customer service. So if you rely on Simplisafe for smoke/CO monitoring, you might want to check that your smoke and CO detectors are actually connected to your account.
