I am looking to add heat detection for fire to my system. I have a try level home and want to put heat sensors in the garage. I don't believe the smoke detectors are a good idea in the garage. Any ideas? Thanks
The SS3 temperature sensors can be set to alarm at up to 99 degrees. If your location never gets above this, then that is an option. Otherwise you'll have to kludge something up using some other companies temperature sensor to somehow set off a SS sensor.
The SS temperature sensor is not a solution for the question that was asked. Please add a real heat detector that can be used in garages, attics, furnace rooms and kitchens. It should have the same alarm response as the SS smoke detector.
Garages are the new ground zero for home fires. Between workshop issues with oily rags, gasoline storage, EV's and back up battery storage systems connected to solar systems, residential garages need to be monitored for both fires and EARLY detection of cell abnormalities in batteries. You recommend against smoke/CO detectors in garages without specifying why. I know my stand alone smokes gave false alarms. Is it heat or temp extremes or moisture problems?
Simpli-Safe needs to have a sophisticated sensor offerings for HEAT detection in garages and in out-buildings with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
As the grid gets more renewable energy more of these systems will be deployed in residences and commercial facilities.
@carlferrentino We have submitted a request for a Heat Sensor to our dev team for their consideration. Be sure to follow this thread to be notified of any updates!
Any updates on coming up with a heat detector? Even a simple bi-metal detector would be OK, but a rate of rise detector would be best.
Since Kidde already has an audible heat detector maybe a "listener" device like Ring uses would work for this application as well as existing smoke detectors.
@cmaurice1 Unfortunately I do not have any updates on this product request. When we hear from our devs we'll let everyone know in this thread, so I recommend following it to get notified when we have more news!
Following this tread. As an interim measure, I will try using an a stand alone heat detector with audible alarm and put an older generation Arlo Camera in the garage to listen for that alarm- especially when I am away.
This depends on me responding to an Arlo alarm on one phone and then me remotely trying to understand if there is a true rapid heat rise from an EV battery or our house back up battery system in the garage.
SimpliSafe please project a response date for the request to flesh out the system.
One other option is if you have hard wired smokes in the house they can be interconnected with the heat detector so the heat detector activation will cause the existing smokes to go audible as well.
You can also use a Roost battery to send an immediate alarm to your cell phone. I have used them in the past to monitor gas detectors which, until now, Simplisafe didn't provide. Works very well.
You may want to consider placing a heat detector in the attic as well. I have responded to attic fires where the occupants were not aware that the attic was on fire until a passer by told them.
Now that we have to pay $2 more for monthly coverage (didn't the monthly fee also go up following the Covid pandemic?) how about taking some of that money, and it probably wouldn't be that much, and give us a real heat detector that would work in those places where a smoke detector won't like the garage which my fire department tells me shouldn't be done. Let's get moving with this request. It's been over a year since I first requested it and many others have also input the same request. Why have you ignored us? Show us now, after your email stating "As of your next billing date after 9/1/2024, your plan’s price will increase by $2/month. This change will help us continue to innovate and expand how we keep you and millions of others safe every day," that you're really serious about "continuing to innovate and keeping us safe." Heat detector that triggers a system alarm is needed. Hoping that you just don't dump the increased revenue into your profits line on the company's balance sheet and continue to ignore our requests.
If Simplisafe would send me the schematics for the temperature and smoke detectors I think that I could integrate the two into a single unit that could do the job if their current development staff is unable.
@aswierz I also asked them years ago for a ROR heat detector. And still nothing. This is not rocket science SS. And now you want more $ per month “for innovation”. What have you been doing all these years?
A heat detector similar to what ADT offers with their systems (Honeywell Ademco ADT 5809) is what is really needed for the garage or a furnace room. It should have the same alarm system response as a smoke detector. Is there something similar to the Honeywell 5809SS that can be connected to the SimpliSafe system. I see that this is something that has been requested for years now.
It appears that Simplisafe doesn't care about it's customer's needs despite what they say and advertise. I don't know what's going on over there, but it would seem to me that a heat detector that triggers an actual alarm would be a piece of cake considering the technology they already have. I'm also not very happy that they're quick to raise our monthly fees while ignoring what we're asking them and is additional revenue. I was in electronics development in my engineering career. We went out of our way to assure customers requests were filled even if on a one-one basis. No request was ever ignored. I can tell you that many on this page will switch systems if a another competitor ever challenges them.
It's very frustrating that SS won't provide its customers a working heat detector that triggers a fire alarm. The real question is WHY? Just recently had a chat with a representative and was told "it's a complex issue." Really? A complex issue? How so? You already have a fire detector and it's apparent that all you'd have to do is change out the sensor element or change your software to trigger an alarm rather then just a warning from your heat detectors. Why is this a complex issue? Don't we have a right to know why you don't want to provide this product which in my case was almost mandated by my local fire department for use in spaces where smoke detectors would false alarm? C'mon give us an answer we can believe.
SS is oblivious to its customers whenever a true heat detector is suggested for development. "Why?" is a great question because all we hear from them is that they're dealing with a complex issue (whatever that means). You'd think that adapting one of their smoke detectors with a solid state heat sensor in place of the smoke sensor would be a no brainer, but it seems it's beyond their development capabilities. They have never given me a straight answer as to why it would be sooooo difficult for them to do it and add it to their product lines. Guess that what's a no brainer to us is an unachievable technical problem for them. You can be sure that I'll be on the lookout for a replacement system that has a farsighted development team backing up the products they provide. Unfortunately, nobody out there offers what SS does in terms of simplicity and cost. Maybe it's the cost that prohibiting them? All I know is that they've recently raised their monthly rate and I would hope they could now afford to provide what so many customers are clamoring for.

Does anyone know of competitor offerings for monitoring with heat detection?

Any Rube Goldberg solutions? Like using a wax container of water that would melt and drip water onto a water leak detector?????

I have stopped holding my breath on this subject. It seems that Simplisafe simply doesn't care about this.
