Using hotspot as my wifi? Anyone doing this?

I'm using my system at a location without wifi.  The basic self-monitoring USED to have cellular connection but recent updates have changed that.  If I were to get a hotspot to be my wifi, how much data would the system use?  I believe it sends a signal each day....

Another follow up question... if I attached wifi cameras, would data only be used when I was notified of motion?

Hi @mrstamil,

The SimpliSafe system uses a negligible amount of data every day -  about the same amount your smartphone uses to send text messages.

Cameras use a bit more data, though. Data is used when you are notified of motion and when the cameras record. The amount of data a camera uses per recording depends on the length of the recording and the quality of the video.

For example, the longest recording event would be for a full alarm, and the camera would record for 3 minutes. If your camera’s video quality is set to 720p and records for 3 minutes, that recording could be about 30MB.
