How can I improve my connectivity speed?

Connection strength vs. Connection speed
A camera which has strong Wi-Fi connection may still experience interruptions in video quality and streaming if the connection speed is low. This means there is not enough bandwidth available for the camera to function properly. Learn more about how connection strength and speed affect your camera and the differences between the two in our What is Upload Speed? article in the Help Center.
To check your camera's connection strength in the SimpliSafe® Mobile App:
Navigate to the “Cameras” tab on the bottom of the screen.
Tap on the gear icon on the top right side of the screen to open Camera Settings.
Note, you will see two gear icons on your app screen. Select the gear in the top right corner.
Select the camera you would like to test.
Choose “Connection Check”. Once started, the connection check will take about 1–2 minutes.
If your connection is shown as strong, the issue is likely your connection speed.
Improving your connection speed
If you suspect that you have low connection speed, you should first make sure you have a good connection strength. You can learn more about connection strength in our What is Wi-Fi Strength and RSSI? article, as well as ways to improve your connection strength in our How to Improve Wi-Fi Signal Strength? article.
If your connection strength is not the issue, then you can work on improving your connection speed. You may need to contact your internet service provider to upgrade your internet package or router in order to improve your connection speed.
If you are still experiencing connectivity issues, please contact customer support. We'll be happy to help!
Please note that only our cameras and Base Station use an internet connection. All of our sensors communicate using radio frequency. If you are having connectivity issues with your sensors, please see our Sensor Not Responding For Multiple Sensors article.
