Battery Life Guide
Updated
With the exception of the Base Station, SimpliCam Indoor Camera, Smart Alarm Indoor Camera, and Key Fob, all of the components for our latest SimpliSafe have batteries that can and should be replaced periodically. When a sensor needs new batteries, your system will display an low battery warning message on the Keypad.
The Base Station requires specific rechargeable batteries; and the SimpliCam Indoor Camera only functions when connected to power, rather than being battery operated. The Smart Alarm Wireless Indoor Security Camera has non-replaceable batteries within it, and can be used on battery or plugged into a power outlet.
Finally, the battery within the Key Fob cannot be replaced. If you require assistance with your Key Fob, please contact support.
In the below table you will find links to articles on how to change the battery for each of your components.
There is also links to the required batteries that can be purchased on Amazon or directly through SimpliSafe Contact Centre.

Why might my batteries not be lasting as long as expected?
Battery life depends on how often your devices are activated and the environment they’re in. The “up to X years” figures we share are based on average use, so if your device is triggered more frequently, batteries may need replacing sooner.
Here are some common examples:
Entry Sensors
Can last between 3 to 5 years.
On a high-use door (like the front door, opened many times daily), batteries may only last 12–18 months.
Motion Sensors
Typically last 3–5 years.
In high-traffic areas, expect closer to 1–2 years.
Keypads
Average life is 6–8 months, but if used heavily, replacement batteries may be needed around 4 months.
Extra Sirens / Bell Boxes
Expected to last up to 1 year.
Frequent alarms or beeps can shorten this to just a few months.
Outdoor Cameras
Rechargeable batteries last up to 3 months per charge.
More frequent recordings (motion events, live views) will reduce this.
Other factors that can shorten battery life:
Frequent triggers: More events = faster drain.
Environmental conditions: Cold weather and dampness can affect battery efficiency.
Signal strength: Devices working harder to connect to the Base Station may use more power.
If your battery isn’t lasting as long as expected, check how often the device is being used. Contact support if you need assistance in identifying any battery issues.
