Outdoor Camera is not Live Streaming

The Outdoor Camera utilises both Radio Frequency (RF) and Wi-Fi to communicate with your Base Station and SimpliSafe® System.
If your Outdoor Camera is not live streaming, there may be RF or Wireless Interference at play. It’s important to have a clean and clear environment between the Outdoor Camera and your Base Station, free from interference – or as free from interference as possible. The following article will walk you through some basic steps to take to confirm connectivity is possible, as well as troubleshooting the connection.

Checking the Battery
An easy first step to take is to check the Outdoor Camera’s battery and rule this out as a potential issue. The Outdoor Camera battery takes 6 hours to fully charge and has a life expectancy of 3-6 months on a single charge – depending on usage and placement.
Remove the battery from the camera
Connect it to power using the in-box USB charging cable
If the three lights on the battery do not all light up, it is not fully charged
This can take a few minutes to appear, so be sure to plug it in and check back shortly after!
Ensure your battery is into the camera with the three metal dots lined up with the metal lines inside the camera and the tab facing out
Check to see if the lens of the camera is aligned with the speaker facing down and tightened fully
Checking the Environment
Another easy step to take is to confirm that the physical environment is capable of supporting the Outdoor Camera’s operating limits.
The Outdoor Camera’s optimal temperature threshold is -20°C to 50°C. If the camera overheats from high usage and its internal temperature rises above 62°C, it will shut down in order to protect the battery from damage or catching fire. Once the camera has cooled back down, it will turn back on and resume functioning.
Using Outdoor Camera’s Connection Check Tool
The Outdoor Camera has the ability to run a quick connection check between it and the Base Station to determine if any improvements can be made to the Wi-Fi connection.
During the test, the Outdoor Camera will check the upload speed and the signal strength to paint a better picture of what the overall connectivity looks like. If you receive a fair or poor signal in any category, the app will walk you through some steps you can take to improve upon that connection. This could be steps as simple as moving the Base Station and testing the connection again, or more involved steps such as setting up a separate network for your SimpliSafe® System to use.
