Security & Privacy Breach on My Account

I want to make other users aware of a serious issue I experienced with my SimpliSafe account that raises major concerns about privacy and account security.

Back in December, I removed my ex-husband from my account as a user/contact and removed his notification access. However, on May 25th, he suddenly began receiving alerts and status notifications from my security system again via the app through which he has his own account and system. He sent me screenshots of the notifications he was receiving on his phone for my address.

We both separately contacted customer support to try and understand why this was happening, and what additionally concerned me was that during his call with support, a representative reportedly asked him for the safe word for MY account — information that should only ever be used to protect MY account and security.

This is not just a minor technical glitch. For anyone in situations involving divorce, separation, harassment, stalking, or safety concerns, this kind of failure could have serious real-world consequences.

We eventually were able to resolve this by having him logout his account, delete and re-install the app. He stopped receiving notifications after that.

I’m posting this because SimpliSafe does not appear to have a direct escalation path for customer feedback or security concerns outside of this forum. I believe other users should be aware that removing someone from your account may not fully remove their access to notifications or system information.

I strongly encourage anyone who has removed a former partner, roommate, or family member from their account to test their notifications and verify they truly no longer have access.
