Where are Matter & Thread?

As an obvious participant in a smart home SS is overdue to embrace. Or as the new guy here am I correct?

@Cluigi Hi and welcome to the community. As a not so new guy (April 2012) yes SS is a member of Matter and with the "series 2" hardware working towards that. How quick for that and Thread, only SS knows that. As hope springs eternal, with CES 2026 just days away, fingers crossed, rabbit foot rubbed and we'll see if this is the year......

First, SimpliSafe used to be a member of the Connectivity Standards Alliance, the group that maintains standards for a number of technologies including Matter. As recently as 2ish years ago when searching the member list on the CSA site you could see SimpliSafe listed. That is no longer the case and they do not show up when I search any of the membership lists on the CSA site.

Second, I've never seen SimpliSafe ever confirm they were working on any Matter enabled product. The only updates I've seen from them are in this thread from 4 years ago:

https://support.simplisafe.com/conversations/product-requests-and-suggestions/matter-smart-home-integration/621d13a03543806e22324b83 .

The only things that Davey ever confirms in any of the replies he makes are:

- We're a member of the CSA
- We're keeping an eye on the standard to see how it evolves
- We still not have any plans for creating a Matter enabled device

All of this is to say that I have not see any kind of confirmation, official or otherwise, that they're working on Matter enabled product. As usual I'll happily admit I'm wrong if you or anyone else can provide a reputable source indicating they are working on any Matter enabled product.

As for CES 2026, it's been over for a week and I can't find any substantive articles or press releases about any new SimpliSafe products (with or without Matter) announced at CES.  Again, if you have information from reputable sources that says otherwise, please share.

@worthing I already posted in another thread CES 2026 was, at least to me, very uneventful overall, and same for SimpliSafe. They were at least at one time a CSA member, and hopefully that will eventually bear fruit.

See my response to captain11 below. 4ish years ago they announced they were interested and keeping an eye on how the Matter standard was progressing. Over the next 2 years they confirmed they were still keeping an eye on it but also stlll had no concrete plans for Matter enabled SimpliSafe devices.  Since then it's been radio silence as far as I can tell.

SimpliSafe plays it safe. This is not a company that rushes to embrace new technology as soon as possible. If anything they are extremely conservative and slow to embrace new technologies.  Search for homekit in the forums here. It was announced in 2018 and then 5ish years later they finally confirmed those plans were dead and then only when many many people had been pressing them for an update for years.

In general I would always recommend that people only buy products and services if those products and services meet their requirements at the time of purchase.  Buying something for funtionality that the vendor says is coming in the future is foolish as that functionality may never arrive.  This is true for ALL vendors and not just SimpliSafe.
