Timeline filter and sort

This request is a combination of multiple similar requests - to be able to filter the Timeline based on different fields; e.g. by event type, time of day, component type, specific name of the component, etc.

I have my camera on a garage facing the street with sensitivity set to high so I get a fair amount of motion events.  It would be great to filter by time in addition to days in order to review all activity occurring over night (e.g. 11 PM - 5 AM) so that I can review anything that may have taken place in the evening hours for one or several days.

Hi @andrewjgeraghty,

Thanks for the idea! We've let our dev team know that expanding the usability of the timeline filter is a requested feature.

Years later and this very basic feature still isn't available. WHY?!

Why even offer security cameras if I can't go back and search easily for a particular event on a particular day? I was recently asked for footage by the police after a neighbor was broken into, but the request didnt' come until nearly 20 days after the incident (neighbors were trying to rent the house and weren't actively living there). Holy cow, it took me FOREVER on the iPhone app to get to the day in question - just had to keep scrolling and scrolling! There is no functionality on the website to search archived footage (again, why?!), and the app just allows you to select the camera and then scroll. I guess it's time to invest in an actual security camera system that doesn't include the SimpliSafe monthly fees.

@simplisafe_admin PLEASE MAKE THIS A FEATURE! It honestly is surprising that it's not. At least make it like the phone app where you can view timelines for specific cameras instead of all cameras on one timeline.

I find it extremely inconvenient that the iPhone app does not have a feature to filter cameras’ recordings based on camera name.

Wonder what other users think/do about it?

Thx

100% agree! Been wondering that myself for a long time. My doorbell captures the most recordings, its hard to find my driveway camera recordings buried in the timeline, filtering by camera would be so darn convenient.

I have multiple cameras so filtering by date only helps a little bit. It would be a bigger help if I could filter by camera so I could check a particular area at a time.

When scrolling through my motion events timeline on the app, I have to go though so many notifications to find the one I am looking for. Right now the only filter is the date, but I would love to be able to filter the recordings by camera location. For example, “front door” that way I can see all the times someone came to the door without have to scroll through all the other motion events from every camera I have before I find the right one. Please add the feature and improve the ease of use of the SimpliSafe app.

Hello @eliseat227,

Thank you for this idea! We'll send this over to our to our devs for their consideration.

@eliseat227 I have the same issue and request. I noticed that Nest has the feature we are asking for. I'm considering switching just because of this one major pain point. Nest also recognizes faces, so I can filter by different people. There could be 1,000 clips but only 5 different people seen. Then I can name the people I identify and then when an unfamiliar face is seen, I can filter by that and go straight to the video or set to get alerts on unfamiliar faces. I can filter by camera. Pretty handy.  I have an old friend that thinks someone breaks into their house and moves their stuff around or steals it. We put in several cameras. So far, it is just my friend moving her stuff and forgetting but when she says 'somebody broke in and moved my purse this morning.' With the Nest cams, I can filter by the camera where the purse was and find when it was moved a lot faster and show my friend that it was actually her moving her purse. She insists the Nest system has been hacked by the purpetrator and they delete the videos @ that's why we have never seen them. So I put in these simplisafe cams. It's a lot more difficult and time consuming to find events and show my friend when I can't filter by the camera. I put 5 simplisafe cams so there is absolutely no way someone could get into the house without being seen. There are probably 1,000 videos a day or her and the dog walking around the house. The Nest system can also identify the dog and can be configured to not save recordings of the dog walking around in order to further declutter the haystack. When I ordered the simplisafe equipment, I was under the impression there was only a monthly fee if I paid for them to monitor it. That is not true. I feel misled. If you don't pay a monthly fee, you can't recall videos of motion events, only live views from the cameras are visible. I feel misled.

Currently we only have the option to filter based on a single date.

A few improvements to make the Timeline more useful:

  1. Be able to filter based on a date range. If I know something happened in a specific week, I don't want to have to change the filter 7 times to look at each date when I could just set a range.
  2. Filter on type of notification, such as Secret Alert, Alarm, Disarmed (and even filter based on which PIN was used!), Armed, Entry Delay triggered, Camera Motion Detected (and even filter based on which camera was triggered!), and system events, like Automatic test Signal Received, Wi-Fi going offline/online, base station losing/regaining AC power, and any other pertinent alerts.

Right now the only way to find these things is to scroll through the Timeline and hope you don't accidentally pass the item you're looking for. Camera motion detected does have the alternate method of going to Cameras, selecting a camera, and then hitting the History button. You can at least see camera alerts this way.

But say I come home after a weekend trip and a few days later I realized something is missing that I know I didn't misplace. Right now the only option you have is to go to the Timeline and scroll to see if a camera recorded something, or look at every Disarmed entry and read who disarmed the alarm. It's very easy to scroll too fast and miss something, or get eye fatigue and struggle to process it quickly. Being able to set the filter to "Friday to Sunday, Disarmed (and either select every PIN or every PIN but the Master PIN)" you would instantly be able to see if anybody disarmed the alarm during that time period without having to ignore the system events and outdoor camera movement detected entries.

This would allow you to have a greater ability to monitor your personal security.

P.S.

While not directly related to this request, whenever a sensor detects something, whether or not the system is armed, it records it and can be filtered. This would allow you to see how many times somebody went in/out the front door and how long the door was left open after disarming the alarm. While a Secret Alert is nice for certain things, I don't need a notification every time the front door is opened while the alarm is turned off, but it would be nice to track it as explained above. Again, give users the flexibility for this.

This post is an excellent suggestion and feature I would like to see implemented, primarily because I refer to the timeline often (in conjunction with my non-SimpliSafe security cameras).

(As a personal side note, I expect these upgrades and features with monitoring fee increases – at a minimum. SimpliSafe should not be raising such prices without expanding the system's usability. These are not hardware upgrades; your company can accomplish them. Maybe I would stay if there were significant implementations of feature requests I could use and others have asked for for years. My search continues)

@Mikepedia Your request sounded similar to this thread, so I merged it here. We do have an open ticket for this request with our devs. We'll bubble this back up to them!
