Smart Lock only Auto Lock if door is closed (check sensor)

It would be nice if the auto lock delay was only active when the door is shut. Since there's a door sensor associated with the lock, why can't it simply check to see if the door is open before auto-locking?

@GrandpaGeorge When an Entry Sensor is paired to the Smart Lock, the sensor should be able to detect the door's state and auto-lock after a set period of time when the door is closed.

If your Smart Lock is auto-locking when the door is still open, we recommend looking at the setup of the Entry Sensor. Is the door that it is installed on made of metal or steel? We don't recommend placing the Entry Sensor on a metal surface, as that can cause the system to read an incorrect open/closed state. In that case, add a buffer between both pieces of the sensor and the door. This can be anything like an additional piece of adhesive, thin cardboard, or a piece of plastic.

However, if the door that the Entry Sensor is on is not made of metal, it can also help to remove the Entry Sensor, add it back to your system, and pair it with the Smart Lock again.

To remove the Entry Sensor from your system:

  1. Open the SimpliSafe app on your phone or tablet
  2. Select My System from the navigation bar on the bottom of the screen
  3. Select Device Settings
  4. Choose your Entry Sensor
  5. Scroll to the bottom and then select X Remove Device

You can then add the device back to your system by following the install guide in our Help Center. And for step-by-step instructions on pairing an Entry Sensor with the Smart Lock, see our Enabling Auto-Lock for Smart Lock article.
