NPIP for updated monitoring plans
Earlier this week Simplisafe released the new and improved Series 2 Outdoor Camera and the new Outdoor Pro monitoring plan. Both excellent products with a downside that must be addressed before I sign up, however, this post is concerned with Simplisafe's New Product Introduction Process (NPIP) or whatever SS calls it.
Here is yet another product that is innovative, adds good value etc:
- Stop burglaries before they start to breach the perimeter of your house
- Improved hardware performance
- Reorganization of monitoring plans from complicated to more simple, streamlined and better organized monitoring plans
Where does it fall apart and run short? The usual, and that is communication. Customers go to bed on the "Fast Protect" plan and wake up under the "Core" plan is just one example.
Simplisafe, great work on the product, service and features but communication is still your weak point. MarCom needs to rollup their sleeves and look at NPIP projects from a customer point of view. You do betas all of the time with customers to check on bugs, features etc. I encourage you (and beg) to include beta participants in ALL stages of the NPIP effort. I believe you will benefit from a greatly improved experience for SS associates and customers alike.

Hey SimpliSafe,
The fact that the gen 1 outdoor cameras don't work with the outdoor monitoring and no one communicated that to people ahead of time is a HUGE miss. How many people have bought gen 1 outdoor cameras since April when the outdoor monitoring was first announced thinking it would work when the service went live? It can't be an insignificant number.
The fact that the gen 1 outdoor camera is still listed for sale in the store is UNFORGIVEABLE. Yes, the product description says it won't work with the outdoor monitoring but you know people will miss that. I assume it's an attempt to get rid of inventory that became obsolete the moment you all decided not to support gen 1 with outdoor monitoring (even though you supported gen 1 during the outdoor monitoring beta it seems? can you confirm?) but if there's another reason, let's hear it.
