HomeKit compatibility

Do we have any idea when SS will include HomeKit compatibility? The CES announcement said this year I believe.

I was wondering if you have an estimated timeline for the homekit integration?  And how deep the integration will be?  like could we use the sensors to activate scenes?  Thanks.

@coltmaster1, as the question  from curtism19782000 was about Apple Homekit, this was the only video I remembered it being mentioned.  If the CEO says it, I say it has weight and will get done.  Again, could care less about anything Apple and really want IFTTT and Amazon Echo connectivity.

I used to work for Apple, my internal password was "AppleSucks".  I kid you not.  Take that however you want lol.

I don't think I've used apple-anything in my life.  Apparently, I don't miss it :)

Are there any plans for also offering Apple HomeKit integration? The rest of my home automation is HomeKit based.

I don't use Alexa or Google.

Thanks,

Lee,
I would love to be involved with beta testing for HomeKit integration. I was involved with beta testing with Chamberlain when they introduced HomeKit intergration with their products.

Hi Lee,

Will it be compatible with the old SimpliSafe hardware, or only the new one?

Hi David,

We're not able to say exactly how new features will work. But the Alexa integration that we released recently is currently available for the All New SimpliSafe only.

Very much would like to see HomeKit integration.  I have August locks, Phillip lights, Leviton switches and use Homekit for all of it.  For me Homekit with Simplisafe with integration of the August locks would be a total win.

This is a must for a modern system. When will this arrive?

@eflee, SS just announced two days ago connectivity with a lock company for release in May. At CES SS announced integration from Amazon Echo and Homekit "this year".  SS3 certainly has the capability to do it, the "when" is key. Possibly SS will be kind of enough to directly post a response?

According to this user it works now.

Thanks. This is not true HomeKit integration. It requires the creation of a HomeBridge server and work-arounds. https://www.imore.com/how-connect-non-homekit-devices-homekit-using-homebridge

@mpouley and Homebridge is a total joke unless you have a PHD in computer programming. Spent $300 on Homebridge only to trash it after two years and 100’s of wasted hours trying to keep it running. Now SimpliSafe is totally HomeKit INCOMPATIBLE.

Literally just got this notice in my inbox. Looks like PC Mag spilled the beans before SS!

https://www.pcmag.com/news/361677/simplisafe-now-plays-nice-with-apple-watch

By the way, the 83 cents a day sounds expensive; recommend to marketing you just say outright 24.99 a month, and list all that you get.

Thanks.  Unfortunately HomeBridge is not HomeKit integration. It requires the creation of a server and software work-arounds.  It's great that the app now works on the Watch (I will check this out), but that also is not HomeKit integration.  I really want to be able to put my SS into automations and scenes in my HomeKit.  The watch integration does make me think they are moving on this.

I understand that Simplisafe will add Homekit compatibility sometime this year. If I get the Simplisafe SS3-01 model and its sensors, will they be Homekit compatible as well or would you only enable Homekit compatibility with a new model?

Not sure what reply you will get from SS to your question.  SS3-01 as you note it, was release in January of this year.  Based on the time between SS2 and SS3, if SS were to/does provide integration it would be with this model, just with firmware updates.  They have added a couple of integrations already this year (August locks, Apple watch, Nest thermostat).  This is not a SS official statement, only a user giving you some info you might not have had.

Hi @sdinesh21,

All new features and additional components (such as the new models of SimpliCam) currently in development are for the current All New SimpliSafe system.
We will continue with this current generation for the foreseeable future.

@Johnny - do you want to go way, way out on the very thin branch and confirm/deny your reference to "new models of SimpliCam" include: new indoor, new outdoor, and new doorbell cameras?  Any other camera(s) I am missing on this list?

Just before I hit Save, I reread you posting.  I truly hope I am not reading it correctly.  Paraphrasing: additional components (cameras) are for SS3 system.  I read that as any camera other than the existing model will NOT be compatible with a SS2 system.

With the excitement generated with the no upgrade path from SS2 to SS3, if this is true, I am going into my cold war nuclear hardened bomb shelter and not coming out for about two years!

I "know" I am wrong, so you might want to tweak you post.

5 Messages

By "All New SimpliSafe" models, do you mean Simplisafe SS03 models? Can you be more specific and confirm?

2.8K Messages

All the reps refer to it as "the ALL NEW SIMPLISAFE systems" - they are in fact, SS3, wish they would start referring to it as such, it's only a small marketing gimmick that is only confusing people.

Hi jrstreff,

We're definitely exploring a variety of different home automation platforms. We just released Alexa compatibility a little while ago! We'll let you know when we expand into others.

Any word of any updates or improvements. Still missing the door bell, outdoor cameras, lock not August locks either, and HomeKit?

3 Messages

I have a version 2, but will not upgrade to version 3 unless HomeKit is officially supported. Too many companies make promises of HomeKit support, then months or years pass without the promised functionality.

39 Messages

Well I know I was planning on switching but when SS said that HK was coming I was all to excited.... I have gen 2 also... I did run the hack HK version it was nice... It did not run like I seen with other companies.... like having a door status, temp, etc but it did disarm via HK.  Well I just hope they bring all the stuff to SS as promised, but I feel ever since that investor drop a large amount of funds into SS nothing is going to happen now.

@Simplisafe, when are you guys finishing up with the HomeKit integration?  It's been too long and the users are wanting this feature now!! pretty please, when are the devs releasing it? Can you at least tell us its in testing phase and a possible ETA?

Never and I purposely purchased this system for HomeKit as the CEO stated on video. Class action lawsuit?

I also suspect that if they do come out with it, it will not be compatible with SS1 or SS2.

@fastbagger how do you know "Never"?

+1

I invested in this system solely based on the promise of HomeKit integration. I'm very pleased with the system overall...but this one lingering issue is wearing on me. When?! If it's not soon, there's no sense in me keeping the system.

I just got my SimpliSafe System a couple of weeks ago and so far I really like it. The main thing it's missing, which I bought in anticipation of, is Apple HomeKit integration. Especially now that HomeKit Secure Video is rolling out with iOS 13, having this feature with SimpliSafe would be amazing. I saw a video from last year from the CEO saying that HomeKit was going to be rolled out, but I haven't seen anything else about it.

Does anyone know what the status of HomeKit is?

Yes, it has been cancelled.  SS and Apple could not come to terms, and SS announced they would NOT be doing Homekit.
Man. That's really disappointing.

5 Messages

Yes, this is VERY disappointing to hear.  I am continuing to invest heavily in Apple HomeKit compatible smart home devices, and it is very disappointing that Simplisafe is not going to support Homekit. Is there a link to an official statement from Simplisafe that they will not support Homekit?

14 Messages

Interesting. If this is true and SS will not ever support HomeKit... I guess I should start shopping for SS replacement (I'm too invested in other Apple hardware; cheaper to replace SS that my Apple / HomeKit-compat hardware).

2 Messages

It really sucks considering they told us, me specifically... that if I bought it in advance that 100% for
Sure homekit was coming.
This is now the 3rd time I have Been burned on companies saying they will have homekit and then changing their minds.  I sold my SS and now I am buying the Arlo Ultra.  But... I will wait for Homekit.
The Pro 1 & 2 Systems got it last month... they say Pro 3 & Ultra are coming by Nov 15.  They say they have already applied for the security code from Apple and it was separate from the Pro and Pro 2 because it is a different base station.
So.... I'm still without home security.  Completely disappointed with SS and the fact they lied to all of us.  If they weren't sure-they should have kept quiet.

Like many of you, I was highly disappointed when I read on the forums that SimpliSafe ditched their efforts with Apple on HomeKit. In fact, I purchased my entire system with the expectation that this was soon to be integrated. I mean, their CEO said publicly on video that we can expect this soon.

I almost gave up, until I became disgruntled one afternoon and sent e-mail to their customer support team asking what the deal was. I was expecting similar responses to what others had reported, basically stating that the HomeKit integration was totally dead. The response that I received, while not very specific, seems to say that we can still expect HomeKit in the future. Here's the response:

Hello Ryan,

Thank you for choosing Simplisafe. I am glad to hear you are enjoying your system. I understand you have a suggestion and a few questions for us. Thank you for your feedback. I'll be glad to answer your questions and provide you more information.

Our development team is working on expanding the system availability. The home kit integration is something we have in progress. However, at this time we do not have additional details on this. We will send out announcements as more information becomes available to us about this integration.

I know this is a feature that you and many other customers look forward to. Hopefully, this is a feature that will be available soon.

I apologize if I could not provide you with the answer you are expecting. If you need any further assistance, please don't hesitate to write back or give us a call at 1-800-297-1605. We're open from 9 am to Midnight Eastern, 7 days a week.

---

What do you guys think? I don't want to get my hopes up too high, but it seems like it may actually happen.

@theroamingroccos, first, full disclosure. I don't care if HomeKit ever comes out as I don't own, and won't in the future, any Apple products.  Now, with that out of the way, I will say SS has consistency if not anything else. Some elements are good, some are bad.  The bad: product announcements: Simplisafe couldn't make an announced product release date if their lives depended on it.  That is a primary factor why they usually never make specific product release dates, and of course, never make the "general ones" either.

A good, consistent item is that when they do say they are going to release something, they do it....eventually.  I have no doubt based on the email you got that SS will release what you want, inter-connectivity with HomeKit.

Yep, a big yawner for me but a biggee for you.  Its what makes the world go 'round.

Have a happy, and safe, Labor Day weekend.

I'm deeply integrated into Apple's products. SimpliSafe is a glaring technological omission. With Abode running specials for monthly service starting at $9 per month, and the fact that Abode integrates Apple HomeKit, I am seriously thinking about leaving SimpliSafe. The savings from switching to Abode would help recoup the money lost on SimpliSafe hardware.

Agreed.  It's something that a lot of other people have voiced their opinions about wanting as well.  I would absolutely love it, as our home is heavily integrated into HomeKit.  It's been heavily discussed on the forums and general understanding is it went from "It's definitely coming' to "We're working on trying to maybe do it, sorta/kinda possibly' to... "Dead'.  Maybe one day... *sigh*

Yes! Please add HomeKit support!  Not sure if the SimpliSafe cameras are compatible with HomeKit Secure Video - t that would be awesome too!

Simplisafe discontinued the API service that I was using with a Homebridge plugin (and paying for). Without Homekit, I am cancelling my service. I just purchased an Abode system that supports homekit.

Security to me also means - NOT sharing every thought, every purchase, my heart rate, breathing rates, and other data with Google or Alexa. There is no more SECURE operating system for pubic widespread use than APPLE.

I am and have been 100% Apple (both the good and bad) since 1987. I'll let you take it from there.

I'm planing on building my retirement home in the next 12-24 mo and researching home automation not just as a gimmick but functionality and accessibility as I age.

I prefer your security system but will drop it in a hot second if not fully compatible with HomeKit when construction begins.

IF the word SECURE has meaning to you, you'd feel the same.

PLEASE move along with full integration to HomeKit, even if its a more expensive option.

Love your product, help me stay SECURE into the future.

SS does what they want to do, and does not do what they do not want to do.  And what they do takes a very long time, and is not announced in advance (and often not even after completion).  In the case of Homekit, they actually did work on it, got into a conflict with Apple and announced they were cancelling the project.  What's the current status?  I don't know, and apparently anybody who does know is not talking.

SO

If SS can fulfill your needs now, then they are a good option.  If anything they do or do not do is a "deal breaker", assume that will always be the case.  Occasionally, that assumption may turn out to be wrong, but that is so much less annoying than the much more likely case of going for years and finding your assumption was right.

Assume Homekit won't be part of SS and find out what else is available which will fill the most of your wants and needs.  You don't have to make the purchase until you are ready to install (or prepare for installation in the case of putting in wiring).  But do the research now so you are ready when purchase time comes to see if by some happenstance SS has been brought up to your standards or you need to go with the appropriate alternative you selected..

Eufy seems to be moving in the direction of tight integration with Apple Homekit. I am trying out their outdoor completely wireless cameras and so far I like the functionality and the tight partnership with Homekit. If Simplisafe were to offer an outdoor camera like either of the eufy cam or eufy cam2 even without the HomeKit integration it would be nice.

2 Messages

I don't see much innovation from SimpliSafe. If that's any indication of how much they invest in their products then I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Home Kit integration. I'm ready to get rid of SimpliSafe if they don't integrate with Home Kit or show some effort on building upon a good product. That's it- good alarm system and nothing more.

So, I wonder which system stuwilliams will be switching to for his new home construction?

2 Messages

I agree with Stu. I like my Simplisafe but when I move I will seriously be considering Abode instead because of better integration with the more secure HomeKit standard. https://9to5mac.com/2020/02/09/abode-iota-review/
