Base Station firmware update via app
My use case might be unique, but I feel that what I'm suggesting would likely benefit others. I am totally blind and while I"m able to use the SimpliSafe iOS and Android apps thanks to VoiceOver and TalkBack screen readers which let me accessibly read and navigate the apps, I cannot read the menus or other functions of the keypad. Where this is particularly problematic for me is when the app tells me that I need to install an update. Since I can't see and am unable to read the keypad's screen, I am not able to select the update option from the menu. I can, however, update my locks just fine via the app. I would like to suggest that SimpliSafe consider adding the ability to update the base station and possibly other components via the app, similarly to how it's currently possible to update locks. Not only would this make the update process more accessible for folks like myself, but it'd probably make it much easier for others who don't want to remove their keypad just to install and verify an update.

You're specifically asking about the Base Station firmware update, which at this time can only be initiated from the Keypad. The theory being that during this update process, the Base Station needs to be inoperable for a short time, and therefore it's when your system is the most vulnerable. So we wanted to make sure that you have to be present at the location to initiate, and also be available in case anything goes wrong.
But you are right, the inelegant side effect is that users who aren't able to use the Keypad aren't able to initiate the update. So we need to come up with a middle ground. I've forwarded your suggestion to our dev team!
