Outdoor camera sucks

Not only does it get nothing at night unless it literally walks right in front of the camera and it's set for night vision the battery has lasted just a couple days since I got the system .its set for people only but if somebody's at the end of my driveway it doesn't get it and if somebody walks up at night it doesn't get it .why is the battery so bad ? I wouldn't be able to leave and have my cameras running while I'm gone because somebody would have to come home and charge them. The camera's always asleep unless I wake it up it doesn't record

Hi @suntanboutique ,

So sorry to hear that you've been having trouble with your Outdoor Camera. It uses infrared to trigger motion (kind of like the Motion Sensors that you might have inside your home), so it would have a shorter range than what the camera can capture. It might help to lower the camera a bit, so it's closer to the ground and where people would be, and also to position it so that people would have to walk across the field of view so that the sensor has a better time catching them.

But the bigger concern is that battery life. It should be lasting up to 3-6 months between charges! I would suggest trying a reset of the camera, in case this is a software issue. But if you continue to have trouble, our Support team would be happy to help.

@davey_d It’s 2024. This response along with not only the cameras, but the entirety of the SimpliSafe system are a complete joke.

After four months and several communications with tech support, I have finally been able to find the perfect placement for my Simplisafe outdoor cameras.

When I first installed and was having connection issues, I was told that there was a problem with my internet provider (1000 mbps) settings and to contact them. They had no idea what I was talking about.

Next SS suggested I move them closer to the router. A 1 year old mesh system with 6 nodes showed that my connection was stable at 10 feet without any walls. Anything over this and it took an average of 45 seconds to connect. A little late to see someone breaking into my house!

So…I finally found the best place to put my Simplisafe cameras…IN THE GARBAGE CAN!!

Just bought 9 new cameras from a competitor….And they all load within 3 seconds and one is even 60 feet away from the closest node and goes through 2 brick walls.

A 15 year customer of SS. I am really disappointed in the product they are putting out into the market. When it comes time to upgrade my security system in a few years, I will look somewhere else.
