entry sensor - blue lights flash but no chime

Hello, one of my door entry sensors won't chime at the base station.  I do get one blue light flash when I open the door, and two blue light flashes when I close the door.  If I open the door very slowly I'll sometimes get a chime.  System is less than three years old.  Other door sensors work fine.

Hi @samlevinesl ,

If the blue light is flashing, that means the Entry Sensor itself is powered - and is able to detect the smaller magnet piece. But the signal isn't reaching the Base Station. Since the chime does happen sometimes, it sounds like the issue might be interference.

Interference can be caused by dense physical objects - such as stone, brick, or metal, that is directly in the way between that sensor and you Base Station. Different materials can also work together to block the signal - like if your walls are made of wood, but if there are a lot of them in the way. Even your own body could contribute to physical intererence!

To resolve, you may just want to move your Entry Sensor to a different spot on that door, or move the Base Station closer, or at least somewhere that the signal may have a better time getting through.

@jgutierrez interference, especially if it's caused by other wireless devices drowning out the SimpliSafe signal, can sometimes come in without you knowing. So the sensor could work sometimes, but not all the time.

One simple test you can try is to just move that Entry Sensor (with the magnet) right next to the Base Station. If it's been disconnected for a long time, you might also want to delete the sensor from your Keypad, then re-add. The system should be able to recognize that sensor, and the Door Chime should now function while the sensor is close up.

But if not, then we'll need further troubleshooting, and our Support team may need to replace that unit.

Essentially they dont have a  answer- I had brand new sensors and the base on the table next to the door with the sensor - never works , the people at simplisafe cant get much to work = they are no help and alot of time wasted

I have wasted hours and still nothing works.

@annamcooke Are you experiencing the same issue as the original poster in this thread? That the Entry Sensor flashes blue when opened but the Base Station doesn't chime? Or is it something else?

If you let us know the exact issue you are experiencing with your Entry Sensor, we can help troubleshoot it here in the Community.

Hello! I am having a similar issue. I noticed I have gotten entry sensors that do not chime out of the box and I ordered some in a 4 pack that do. The boxes they come in look semi different. So I'm wondering if the older sensors chimed out of the box and newer ones do not?

I suggest this because I have family who purchased their Simplisafe system in 2019/2020 and they have chiming sensors. The sensors I got from the 4 pack have the chime like theirs do but the initial sensors I received from my kit that I just purchased last month do not chime. They are all connected and the base station sees when they are open/closed just no chime.

Also, I purchased the additional indoor camera from the extra siren, it would be a cool feature if that could also issue the chime sound too like the base station does.

Thank you!

@jessicad By default, the Base Station should chime when an Entry Sensor has been opened while your system is in Off Mode. When in Home or Away Modes and an Entry Sensor is opened, the Base Station should not chime and an alarm should trigger instead.

I would recommend putting your system in Off Mode and opening a door or window that has one of the sensors you bought last month on it. Does your Base Station chime?

If the Base Station does not chime, I would then check to see if any of those sensors are set to Secret Alert. When enabled, the Base Station will not make a sound and you will receive a discrete notification instead. For more details on Secret Alerts, check out the Enabling Secret Alerts for your SimpliSafe Sensors article in our Help Center.
