What is Practice Mode?
Updated
Practice Mode begins as soon as you activate monitoring for your system and ends automatically after 72 hours. During this time, we make sure your system and account have all the right information to be professionally monitored to ensure the best experience. It is also a great time to familiarize yourself with your system. Take the time to practice an alarm and make sure your communication and system settings are set up in a way that works best for you.
How do I learn about my system and practice an alarm?
You can get to know your system in Practice Mode by practicing arming and disarming it, as well as triggering an alarm without having to worry about emergency services being requested to your home or business.
When practicing an alarm in Practice Mode, your Primary Contact(s) will receive an automated call from us whenever you trigger an alarm if you don’t cancel the alarmwithin 30 seconds. This call will inform you that you are in Practice Mode, and provides you with important information so you will be prepared in the event of an actual alarm.
If you have 2 Primary Contacts and the first one picks up the phone, your second Primary Contact will not receive this phone call. But if your first Primary Contact doesn’t pick up the phone, we will call your second Primary Contact as well.
During this time, the Monitoring Center will receive signals from your system but will not request assistance from emergency services. So feel free to practice as much as you would like to really learn how your system works.
When you are in Practice Mode, you will see a blue banner on the top of the screen in the SimpliSafe® mobile app. For step-by-step instructions on how to test an alarm while in Practice Mode and learn how to cancel an alarm in the SimpliSafe® mobile app, use our “Try an alarm” module found on the banner.
How do I exit Practice Mode early?
If you want to exit Practice Mode before your initial 72 hour period has lapsed, you can take the following steps:
Open the SimpliSafe® app on your phone or tablet
Choose My System from the bottom navigation bar
Select Location Settings
Scroll down to Practice Mode and choose Manage Practice Mode
Then, select End Practice Mode
How do I re-enter Practice Mode?
If you want to learn more about your system and practice an alarm without fear of emergency services being requested, you can re-enter Practice Mode at any time. To do this:
Open the SimpliSafe® app on your phone or tablet
Choose My System from the bottom navigation bar
Select Location Settings
Choose Try Practice Mode
Then, you can then set your account in Practice Mode for as few as 15 minutes, or up to 8 hours
Your account will automatically resume to being professionally monitored when that pre-selected time duration expires, or you can take the steps above and end Practice Mode early when you are done learning about your system.
Note: Active Guard Outdoor Protection services are not active when your system is armed and in Practice Mode, even when you are within Outdoor Protection service hours. Motion events will be marked as “In Practice Mode” by our monitoring center and are not engaged during Practice Mode.
