Original SimpliSafe® Smoke Detector Installation Guide

Updated

The Original SimpliSafe® Keypad

Does your Keypad look like the one pictured to the left? Then you're in the right place! You've got the Original SimpliSafe® system. If you purchased a new system in 2018 or later, you likely have the Gen 3 SimpliSafe®. In that case, see our Smoke Detector Installation Guide. If you're not certain which system you have, visit the Which Version of the SimpliSafe® System Do I Have article.

We recommend installing Smoke Detectors near bedrooms, as well as having one on every floor of your home. Try to avoid installing Smoke Detectors near a furnace, stove, fireplace, kitchen, garage, or any bathroom with a shower. Installing Smoke Detectors in these locations may result in false alarms. We also suggest cleaning your Smoke Detector once a month to avoid dust or dirt build up which can also cause a false alarm.

To install your Smoke Detector remove the white battery activation tab hanging from the battery compartment. Next, remove the Smoke Detector from it’s mounting bracket by rotating the Smoke Detector counterclockwise. Install the bracket to your wall or ceiling using the included screws and wall anchors. Once the bracket is secure grab your Smoke Detector, position it against the bracket, and twist your Smoke Detector clockwise until it clicks into place. You can pull gently on your Smoke Detector to make sure it is securely attached.

We recommend installing the Smoke Detector near sleeping areas, and on each level of your home. You should not install the Smoke Detector near the furnace, stove, fireplace, kitchen, garage, or near a bathroom with a shower.

NOTE: A yellow solid light indicates that the Smoke Detector is not attached to the bracket properly, and needs to be adjusted. There should be no solid lights when the Smoke Detector is installed properly.

If you are installing a new Smoke Detector to an existing system it can be added through your Keypad, or the Easy Setup Wizard. View the How to Add New Sensors to My Original SimpliSafe® System article for additional information.
